Main Index : CATALOG - Current print and new titles
Roger's Introduction & NewsRoger's Introduction & News
Please note that this catalogue represents only part of our stock - being new titles issued recently together with forthcoming titles for the next couple of months and older items being moved to the consolidated section. We stock virtually every uk paperback in print, many uk hardcovers plus a large selection of american imports.Added to this are our second-hand/collectors department and other special sections. If it's not listed, please ask or email.

IGNORE RUMOURS! - there are rumours floating around that ANDROMEDA is closing down. NOT TRUE. So ignore them. The truth is that we are moving from our present location in Suffolk Street in March next year. At present we do not have new premises to move to but don't worry - there's plenty of time. We'll let you know nearer to March.

PRICE INCREASES - Last catalogue I bemoaned the fact that too many books were being postponed. Now we have another problem - price increases. It's quite often that we list a hardcover at £16.99 and it arrives at £17.99. All this we have to accept, but last month we had an incident that was unacceptable. We have been pushing the new hardcover series of SF Masterworks - both in our print catalogues and on the site. The big attraction of these was the price - only £9.99.

Imagine our surprise - and horror - when they turned up priced at £14.99. And in the same day's post some promotional material quoting the £9.99 price tag! We immediately phoned the publishers expressing our displeasure and asked them who was going to pay to write to all our customers who ordered these, and were they prepared to take back all the cancelled orders.

We're pleased to say they came back to us within a few hours and said they'd cancel the invoice and re-invoice at £9.99. So we were able to charge £9.99 to all those customers who pre-ordered. Any orders from now on though will be at £14.99. So - it is an advantage to order in advance.

HOUSE OF STRATUS - We mentioned a while back that a new publisher, House of Stratus, was now publishing print-to-order books, bringing back into print many classic authors such as Rafael Sabatini, James Hadley Chase, John Buchan, Rudyard Kipling, etc. - and their only SF author, Brian Aldiss together with the forthcoming H G Wells hardcovers. Earlier news of their demise seems to have been exaggerated... they are still in busines and new titles will be available next month as usual.

JOSH KIRBY

By now, all, or most of you, will have heard of the death of SF and fantasy artist Josh Kirby. He died in his sleep, aged 72, at the end of October.

Josh was famous for his illustrations of Terry Pratchett's Discworld books. Many customers we spoke to thought he was a youngster and new to book covers.

Far from the truth! In fact, Josh's first cover was for the Panther edition of Dan Morgan's CEE-TEE MAN way, way back in 1954, followed by the Pan edition of Ian Fleming's MOONRAKER - one of the early James Bond novels.

In the early sixties he did a wonderful series of abstract SF covers for Four Square and Corgi. Superb covers for Hitchcock horror novels and Ray Bradbury's books followed. His work appeared on both sides of the Atlantic - in the US he did dozens of covers for Ace and DAW Books - Ron Goulart, Philip Jose Farmer, Alan Burt Akers, Lin Carter, etc.

The collection of his artwork, COSMIC CORNUCOPIA published a list of every cover he'd had published and I have to admit, although I'd seen virtually every book listed, I was amazed at the sheer volume - as much as 25 covers per year during the 70s.

He will be missed but fortunately we still have his wonderful artwork.

Catalogue 216 is our long-awaited catalogue of second-hand and out of print items. Three years in the preparation! Well it has been a traumatic three years!

Anyone else who wants a copy - please ask or look in Collector's Corner/Secondhand as most of the books are listed here plus further additions. Over 1000 items - hardcovers, paperbacks, proofs and magazines including rare 50s/60s detective/mystery paperbacks, many scarce STAR TREK hardcovers and even some RARE Leonard Nimoy poetry books. Oh yes, there's also a copy of the First Edition of Terry Pratchett's COLOUR OF MAGIC - only £6000!!!... Lottery winner anywhere?

This will be our last catalogue this year so we'd like to wish all our customers a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. From Ped, Harry, Arfan, Laurence, Rod and myself.

Please note that prices are those quoted either by UK publishers or those governed by the dollar/pound exchange rate. Every attempt is made to quote the correct price but we reserve the right to charge any new price forced on us either by UK publishers or by fluctuations in the exchange rate.

Also note that some US imports listed in this catalogue may not be in stock at the time of going to press but they are listed here if they are expected.
